So you have ACE’s…Now What?

It seems as if the world is just waking up to Adverse Childhood Experiences and the enormity of the weight childhood trauma has caused humanity.

Only 3 out of 10 American children will make it to age 18 with zero ACE’s. Flip the script and now we have 7 out of 10 children with at least one or more ACEs by the time they reach 18 years of age.

Major research studies have concluded that societies will repeat what they do not heal from. Here are just a few examples of illnesses that are repeated due to a lack of understanding of the cause:

• Increased risks of chronic disease
• ​Addictions
• Sexual promiscuity that bring about sexually transmitted diseases
• Violence against one another
• Crimes
• Domestic and intimate partner violence​

As ACE scores increase, so do the consequences. A person with a score of 4 or more ACE’s has a life expectancy of 20 years less than someone with no ACEs. Mental illness becomes more common place for those with high ACE scores and studies have shown that their likelihood of attempting suicide rises by 1200%.

When faced with normal life stressors, adults who suffer from ACEs will have a much harder time overcoming such stressors due to the lack of development in the part of the brain that assists with making rational decisions. The lack of awareness causes this generational cycle of trauma to repeat itself, most often unknowingly.

The world is on the ground floor of awareness staring up at the top of a scale that is ready to tip at any moment and the odds are not in the ACE’s favor.

ACE’s Matter is dedicated to beating the dealer of adversity with research, awareness, education and solutions to stop this cycle of abuse.

This is not how life is supposed to be, so now what?

We hold! Not fold!

For many children in America, the cards seem to be stacked against them, very much out of their control. Many children are conceived into ACEs, thus experiencing traumas from the very womb that was designed to protect them. Some of us with ACEs are struggling and repeating the actions of our parents unknowingly, while others want to change but have no clear path to do so.

There is Hope! Many are waking up to implications of childhood trauma and taking steps to heal. ACEs Matter sees this as a call for help and we will be there to answer the call. ACE’s Matter is here to help hold you up, support you and prepare you for a future that God designed to prosper and not to harm you. You are not alone.
